A timeline of the history of Northport Fire Department
1906 Village is devastated by a fire
The Northern Hotel, general store, drug store, post office, several
homes and the car ferry dock and warehouses were all destroyed
1906-1920 A number of fire fighting chemical machines were purchased
1921 Village of Northport offers $5 "to party with automobile or team first
arriving at a fire with the two chemical machines kept in the jail"

1925 Ed Carlson appointed first Fire Chief of Northport village
1929 Village of Northport purchased a new Model a fire truck, sold by Hall
and Kellogg Ford Dealership in Northport. There was one stipulation
made by the village - the engine had to be able to shoot a stream of
water over the top of the Congregational Church
1929 Orval Kellog appointed Fire Chief
1930 Northport village and Leelanau township agree to joint ownership
and use of fire equipment
1947 Second fire truck with a fog system and hose cart is purchased for
$7000
1972 Orval Kellogg retires as Chief
1973 New fire hall built and dedicated "Orval Kellogg Fire Hall"
1973 John Alsup appointed Fire Chief
1974 Elden Dame appointed Fire Chief
1974 Fifth fire truck purchased
A timeline of the history of Omena Fire Department
1947 Omena village had no fire equipment - Frank Kalchik used his own
truck with a 500 gallon water tank and pump
1948 Township purchased a trailer with a portable pump, kept behind the
Omena general store
John Putnam is appointed first Omena Fire Chief
1955 Keith Brown appointed Fire Chief
1961 Property for fire station was donated by Chicago Province of
Society of Jesus
Omena Fire Hall is completed, costing $2595.75
1963 Fred Weiss and Robert Morse formed the Omena Volunteer Fire
Department, receiving $2650 in contributions to buy the first Omena
fire truck - a 1947 Ford
1975 Township purchased a 1952 GMC fire truck for $5600
